World-renowned experts meet in Catania to discuss the latest developments in spine-related imaging technologies

Weight-bearing magnetic resonance imaging, dynamic imaging and interventional procedures are the focus of the “Advanced Solutions for Spine Interventional and True Motion Imaging on Open MRI” scientific event, organised by Esaote S.p.A.

Under the patronage of the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), the International Weight Bearing Imaging Society (IWBIS) and the Middle East and North Africa Stroke and Interventional Neurotherapies Organisation (MENA-SINO), the event will be chaired by Prof Luigi Manfrè, Secretary-General of ESNR and Head of the Spinal Interventional Department at IOM.

Genoa, 18 April 2024 – With the aim of investigating the latest advances in the field of MRI in the treatment of spinal column pathologies, a scientific event of international relevance is due to be held in Catania (at Palace Catania UNA Esperienze) on Sunday 21 April 2024: “Advanced Solutions for Spinal Interventional and True Motion Imaging on Open MRI”, organised by Esaote S.p.A, a leading company in the diagnostic imaging sector.

Scientific data indicate that back pain is one of the most frequent symptoms in the worldwide population, with a prevalence of between 40% and 60%; although the causes are diverse, the effects often lead to disabling pathologies, affecting all ages.

"Many symptoms and pathologies occur or are exacerbated when the patient is in an upright position. Ninety per cent of the time, patients present symptoms in an orthostatic position and when prostrate, the symptoms disappear.” noted Prof Luigi Manfrè, Head of the Spinal Interventional Department at the Mediterranean Institute of Oncology in Viagrande Catania, Italy, and Secretary-General of the European Society of Neuroradiology.Weight-bearing MRI examination provides us with accurate diagnosis of musculoskeletal pathologies that can be detected when the patient is standing, in a position of physiological load, which are not always visible in conventional MRI (supine patient)”.

MRI is also a significant tool to assess how to proceed with spinal surgery and post-operative follow-up. Clinical studies show that in at least half of the patients undergoing spinal surgery, treatment was established or modified after orthostatic MRI.

Finally, the innovativeTrue Motiontechnology (dynamic imaging) makes it possible to visualise complex details that may not be visible in static images; this is especially advantageous in postoperative assessment.

At the event, international experts in the fields of neuroradiology, spinal interventional imaging and diagnostic imaging will discuss innovative MRI techniques, with a focus on weight-bearing examination, dynamic imaging and interventional procedures.

Esaote is proud to support the advancement of MRI in the future of healthcare”, said Giacomo Pedretti, MRI Marketing Manager at Esaote. “The event promises to provide a wealth of educational opportunities to address major topics in terms of procedures and clinical assessments that can be performed with open MRI, to showcase the future of MRI and its wide range of capabilities. This is a unique opportunity, involving a global scientific community with a new perspective on diagnosis and their approach to treatment based on these new technologies, including in terms of sustainability”.
